On the road supporting his new double album The Guitar Song, Johnson’s stage setup features several A-T wired and wireless mics Stow, OH 10-04-2010 Audio-Technica, a leading innovator in transducer technology for over 45 years, has supplied country star Jamey Johnson with a variety of wired vocal and backline microphones as he heads out on the road. The award-winning singer-songwriter and Audio-Technica endorser is currently on tour to promote his new double-album, The Guitar Song (Mercury, 2010), which features 25 tracks spread across the thematically linked “White Album” and “Black Album.” Alabama native Johnson, now a resident of Nashville, has won multiple Song of the Year awards from both the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association, and was nominated for five GRAMMY® Awards in 2009 and 2010. With The Guitar Song already picking up rave reviews, Johnson and his seven-piece band, the Kent Hardly Playboys, are on tour, and front and center, on lead vocal, is Audio-Technica’s acclaimed Artist Elite® AE6100 Hypercardioid Dynamic Handheld Microphone.

“It’s absolutely my favorite vocal mic, ever,” comments Joe Dlearo, Johnson’s Front-of-House engineer for the past 18 months. “We’ve got substantial stage volumes, and the 6100 rejects all the screaming loud monitors just great. I’m able to get it loud in the front of house, and my monitor guy Beau Boggs is able to achieve unbelievable decibel levels of vocal.”

The Kent Hardly Playboys, comprising a drummer, percussionist, bass player, keyboard player, pedal steel player and two guitarists, also make use of various A-T wired mics, including AE5100 Cardioid Condenser Instrument Microphones, AE3000 Cardioid Condenser Instrument Microphones, ATM450 Cardioid Condenser Instrument Microphones, ATM650 Hypercardioid Dynamic Instrument Microphones, and AE2500 Dual-Element Cardioid Instrument Microphones. In addition, the guitarists are using A-T’s 5000 Series Frequency-agile Diversity UHF Wireless systems.

“I decided to try the AE2500 dual-element on guitar, and I couldn’t believe the results I was getting,” says Dlearo. “It’s a condenser and a dynamic – two mics in one, and perfectly phase aligned. Some would say it’s designed for a kick drum, but it also sounds great on the guitar rig.”

The current leg of Johnson’s U.S. tour includes shows throughout the eastern half of the country as well as in Los Angeles through November. Please visit www.jameyjohnson.com and www.audio-technica.com for more information.
